Early Eskimo versions had blades that were hand-crafted from polished slate with carved bone or ivory handles. New versions of the popular knife feature stainless steel blades and wood handles. The Ulu knife is more effective at cutting, chopping and mincing because of its curved blade and because it places pressure directly over the blade rather than just at the end of a traditional handled knife blade.
